Check here for opportunities and advice on how to complete your 40 hours of community service.

You should also look around where you live, and in your community, to see where you can volunteer. Talk to family and friends to find out about opportunities as well.
***Also stop by the College & Career Center to check for opportunities posted on the bulletin board!

Searching elsewhere for volunteer opportunities:

  • The New Haven Youth Map lets users search for and find out more about youth programs and activities throughout the city of New Haven.

  • Libraries and librarians are good sources of information; be sure to check the bulletin boards.

  • Ask at any organization you or your family is involved with: nearly everyone welcomes volunteers either on a regular schedule or for special events.

Here are some tips for how to present yourself when contacting community agencies to volunteer:

• Clearly state your name, age, and school. If appropriate, you can also say you are seeking volunteer hours to fulfill community service requirements.

• Leave a phone number and/or spell out your email address if you leave a message or send an email. Reply promptly to any messages you receive back.

• If you change your mind, let your contact know if you are no longer interested in a volunteer opportunity.

• You are responsible for submitting your service hours. Talk to your guidance counselor or come to the College & Career Center to get help with this.

• Be courteous and professional. As a volunteer, you are making a commitment and are expected to be responsible.
